Every writer’s dream is to be published. But the publishing world is stuffed full of people trying to get published and make money, so it’s much easier said than done.
As an anxious introvert, it is difficult for me to regularly publicize my strengths and my writing, which is why self-publishing hasn’t really been an option for me, though I know it works for some people.
Currently I am querying agents by sending them my book’s elevator pitch & the first 5-20 pages of the book. I include a description, comparisons, and a synopsis of the novel in the hopes that the agent will request a full copy and proceed to champion me to the big publishing companies.
So what’s my novel?
My Pitch: Blood Braided by Moonlight contains the magic of Supernatural, the blood and romance of Hannibal, and the slowburn pacing of a Slice-of-Life. This character-driven romantasy is about gay farm witches and a boy who just wants a place to call home.
Blood Braided by Moonlight intertwines boyhood passion and a strong atmospheric setting to ground the story in gritty magical realism. With carefully crafted spells, found family, and blood-covered lies hiding around the corner, the dark whimsy of this story asks a simple question: how much are you willing to sacrifice to protect your family?

Synopsis: Kade returns to his childhood home, a small community of witches hidden away in Southern Oregon, in an attempt to investigate the reasons behind his family’s exile 14 years prior. He means to discover who he is and where he fits into the world. And though he doesn’t want to admit it, the real reason Kade has returned is for Jericho, his best childhood friend, who he’s always felt a strong connection to and now hopes for more. But Jericho has a girl, and everyone has moved on with their lives.
As Kade struggles with revelations about his own family, he can’t help falling in love with Jericho and everything about being a witch. But how can Kade find a way to fit in when he doesn’t even know why he had to leave? When he discovers the secrets plaguing his family are far more intricate and wider-reaching than he imagined, he is forced to make some hard decisions: who is his real family? And what is more important: love or the truth?
Wish me luck in my queries!
