It’s The Final Countdown! Ni-ni-ni-ni, ne-ne-ne-ne-ne…
Due date is less than two weeks away, and we are so excited. Also a bit nervous, but hey, that is probably normal. We printed our Birth Plan, packed our hospital bags, and placed the carseat in the vehicle. We are ready to meet our adorable parasite, our son, the not-quite-metaphorical astroid that is going to end our world as we know it.
But we are as ready as we can be.
It has been an interesting few weeks. Work has been especially difficult, physically and emotionally, but I have an incredibly supportive community to help me out. My work friends threw a suprise mini-baby shower for me in which they bought me all their favorite baby board books, and we decorated cupcakes together. It might be the nicest thing work friends have ever done for me, and I am so grateful for them.
My fantastic and creative wife built this sugar-filled advent calendar with little goodies for each work day counting down to my paternity leave. The last day also happens to be our due date, so it is truly a countdown for both of us.

This week, my wife and I also went out to celebrate our 7-year dating anniversary, which coincides nicely as 6 months opposite our wedding anniversary. It was a nice excuse to go out and have a fancy dinner, but we also realized it is likely to be the last “date” for a while, at least without childcare.
Wish us luck! We cannot wait for you all to meet the boy too.
PS: a note for anyone looking closely at the pictures: Yes, our hydrangeas are that dramatic.
